How does one describe themselves? Are you a daughter, sister, mother, a Republican / Democrat, by skin color, by your career? What makes you, you? What you like to do, what you stand for? Your traits or your favorite color? So much makes up you - how do you choose to describe yourself? I guess here is how I describe myself (at least today):
Ever since I was a little girl, I've loved animals. I always wanted a dog, and we finally got one when I was in 5th grade - he was a great dog, a collie named Rusty.
Shortly thereafter, my dad bought a Canon AE-1 camera and I thought it was the coolest thing in the world. I decided I wanted to be a wildlife photographer. The next year I asked for a camera for Christmas and my dad gave me his Canon AE-1 because he didn't want to learn how to use it. And so my love affair with cameras and photography began.
I think the photography was always an excuse so that I could be closer to animals. So I would have an excuse to go see them and bring back my memories to share with everyone else. I learned all the technical "stuff" about photography, but even to this day, it's not uncommon for me to just watch animal behavior with my camera sitting in my hands. At home, I tend to use my point and shoot or cell phone so that the big camera doesn't get in the way of interacting with my dogs.
My favorite place in the whole world to photograph is Kenya. I have been to Africa for a total of 25 weeks so far in my life: Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, and Zaire. The only country I've visited multiple times is Kenya. I will continue to return to Kenya again and again, whenever I can for as long as I can. If you haven't been there yet - you must do so and soon.
I am currently working in the corporate world. I recently sold my business and am staying on for a little longer in a consulting capacity. After that is done, I will be focusing much more on my photography and my blog and my social media platforms. My ultimate goal is to make photography and teaching photography my full time career.
So, for now, that's me. You can find me on Facebook, Instagram, and ficklr as LisaRoberti or Lisamroberti. I really hope you enjoy my photographs and some of my stories about my experiences.
